Question - 343

The man patented the invention shown above. As is usually the case, he is very well-known for doing other things. Who?

Hint: To paraphrase James Joyce - It's a Portrait of Artist as a Young Man.

Answer: Abraham Lincoln as a young man patented an invention for lifting boats. Lots of presidents with Nobel prizes, only one to have any sort of patent. Thought it appropriate to show Honest Abe as the young inventor, rather than the bearded figure of the Gettysburg Address.

Abraham lincoln's patent to lift boats over sand bars. This makes him the only U.S president to hold a patent.
