Question - 164

The person in the top left created a sculpture parts of which are shown. Also one part which turned out to be very controversial is not shown. Identify him, the sculpture and the controversy.

Answer: David Cerny, the eccentric Czech sculptor who decided to make fun of all European countries in the EU with his Entropa. Each country is portrayed here in a less than flattering light. The controversy was that Bulgaria was portrayed as a squat toilet which really enraged the Bulgarian government. Divya, Iam, Arvind, Raghu, Schmetterling, Hirak, Manix, Keshav, J, Rajesh, Vijay and an anon got it. Well done.

Entropa Sculpture Brussels
By David Cerny
He was supposed to coordinate artists from different countries of EU, but falsified identities and created it himself. Each country represented is mocking & or / thought provoking.

My thoughts on these: There are places where you get paid to do this?
Hmmm....
Utopia!!! Atlantis!!! Heaven?

David Cerny, Entropa and portraying "Bulgaria as a toilet".

Prag-based artist David Cerny was commissioned by the Czech Rep. to put together a project involving 27 Euro artists - Cerny instead made "Entropa" as a joke representing the stereotypes of the E.U. where Bulgaria was depicted like a Turkish toilet;
Sweden was premade furniture, Germany was autobahns shaped into a swastika, Italy had a "pseudo-erotic" soccer theme, Romania with Dracula, Luxembourg with a "For Sale" sign, Poland priests with the gay pride flag - etc.

the artist is david cerny and the sculpture 'entropa'. it was commisioned by the czech government to commemorate it's presidency of the european union. the sculpture depicts germany with autobahns supposedly arranged in the form of a swastika, holland being submerged with minarets sticking out of it and i think denmark has been modeled out of lego bricks. it resembles a mullah with a bomb!

David Cerny, Entropa and the part depicting Bulgaria

The sculptor is David Cerney

Its a sculpture replicating map of Europe with each piece representing a nation.

Britain was left out of the map all together symbolizing its skepticism of Europe/EU.
