Answer: The dying lion statue in Lucerne commemorates the defense of the Tuilerias palace by the Swiss guards during the Paris commune. Adi, Divya, QoD, Hirak, Iam and Rahul Trivedi got it. Well done.

The lion statue is located in Lucerne, commemorating the Swiss guard's defense of the Tuileries Palace (the old building pic). The third pic is the swiss guards of the pope.

the dying lion of lucerne was carved in memory of the swiss mercenaries that were killed at the tuileries in 1792, while trying to protect Louis XVI from the angry mob (paris commune)

The carving of the dying lion at Lucernce (1) commemorates the massacre of the Swiss guards (2) during the French revolution, at the Tuileries Palace (3).
