Question - 5

Shown is the entrance to a facility that was opened on February, 2008. Where is it located and what is it used for?

Answer: Svalbard global seed vault located close to the North Pole. It is used as a storage facility for a wide variety of seeds and grains as backup in the event of a global catastrophe. Raghu and Mekhala got it right. Well done. Again, 1 comment by Mekhala awarding Adi a pi/10 was swallowed up by blogspot. I am travelling over the weekend. Regular updates will resume on Monday.

Well, I was thinking of replying but decided against it. However, since I was awarded points I feel obligated to post my reply.

This is the secret location of the intel's research lab working on massive multi-core processor. The building, designed by Anish Kapoor, is meant to represent the chasis of a desktop.

Frost has hidden the "Intel Inside" logo. Its location is undisclosed. Initially, this research lab was located in California, but the excessive heat produced by the multicore processors increased California's wildfires. So, Intel moved the lab to Alaska; but the excessive heat increased the rate of global warming. Amid widespread protests, Intel has moved the research lab again, but not revealed the exact location. The quizmaster gathered this information from a disgruntled Intel employee he met in SF airport. Being a good citizen, but not wanting to be labelled a whistle blower, he disguised this fact as a quiz question.
