Question - 4

What supposedly started at the place shown in the left and ended at the place shown in the right?

Answer: Journey to the center of the earth. The Jules Verne novel has Prof. Lidenbrock and his nephew entering the earth's crust through the Snæfellsjökull (pictured on the left) and coming out of Stromboli (pictured on the right). Mekhala and Raghu got it right. Well done. For a much better answer, check out Adi's comments.

This is a trick question, both locations show the same place --- Australia. The picuture on the left shows how Australia looked like at the Huronian ice age in the Paleoproterozoic era. (The drift of continents had not started, so Australia had huge mountain peaks). The picture on the left shows how Australia will look like after about 169 years, after global warming has melted all the polar ice, and rest of the earth has submerged in water.

The photographs were taken by a time traveller, who came from the future (you see the few houses in Australia in the second picture), and gave the pictures to our quiz master to distribute to the world.

Now that the facts have been given, lets come back to the question. So, the cycles of ice age supposedly started on the picture at the left and ended on the picture on the right. (At least that is what I suppose).
