 This famous gate leads to what?

Answer: 
Hell. Auguste Rodin's sculpture "The Gates of Hell" inspired by Dante. You can also see his 'The Thinker' on the middle panel.

Hell! I happened to see it (or, rather, a plaster replica of it) at the Musée D'Orsay in Paris just two months ago.
