Question - 158

The visual in the top left is mocking the first efforts made to overcome this while the three gentlemen in the top right are gladly proclaiming that they have managed to do so. However, they aren't completely successful due to the bottom two visuals. What am I talking about?

Answer: The smallpox virus. The top left spoofs Jenner's vaccination methods based on cow lesions (the people are sprouting bovine appendages after getting inoculated), the top right shows health officials declaring that the smallpox virus has been eradicated from the world. However, US and Russia continue to hold stockpiles of the virus (heavily guarded) at the locations shown at the bottom despite several pleas to have them destroyed. The locations are CDC in Atlanta and VECTOR somewhere in Russia. Vijay, Raghu, Iam, Manix and Divya got it. Well done.

Small Pox Eradication

Smallpox

The cartoon mocks the first efforts at vaccination made from cowpox lesions, hence the gruesome cow appendages.

CDC declared that smallpox had been eradicated, in 1980.

Last two stocks remain in CDC (USA) and VECTOR (Russia).

Getting rid of the Small Pox virus? I am guessing that the bottom right is the CDC and other location is some secret bio-warfare location.

Taking a "wild" guess: cure for mad cow disease?

Small pox vaccination.

The first picture shows a caricature ridiculing that recipients of the original cowpox vaccine for smallpox would develop cow like appendages.

The second picture is that of the 1980 announcement by the directors of smallpox global eradication program that it has been completely eradicated.

I dont know what the next 2 pictures are - maybe cases where small pox was discovered, after having said to be eradicated?
