Question - 153

The landscape shown is man-made and cover more than 4000 square miles. Where are they located?

Answer: Banaue rice terraces in Philippines. Divya, Arvind, Sinndhuja, Rajesh and Swapnaa got it. Well done. Like Adi says, there is nothing distinctive in the picture to distinguish it from any other step farming place but I thought it looked real impressive.

The Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines.

Hand-carved by the Ifugao tribe more than 2000 years ago!

This looks like almost every other village in Himachal (Yes, 10-15 houses would be a typical size of a village, the staired fields are also typical, that is the only way you can do agriculture on hills).

But the hills do not look like they belong to lower Himalayan ranges, unless there is a river flowing a few meters right of the picture, which created the broader valley. And of course, Himachal is more than 20,000 sq miles.

I for one, do not see anything special :-(

Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines (its what we call "step farming" in India). This particular site is more than 2000 years old and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
